Teaching Philosophy
Dancing has always been a constant in my life. Just like every child I learned dancing for the purpose of enjoyment, however gradually dance became a source of healing, passion, and motivation. It is surprising how integral dance through any path is a huge part of my life, be it performing or teaching. I perform to heal and to spread joy amongst the audience; However, I aspire to do the same when teaching. My teaching has developed in multiple ways after studying various theories involved in dance education. By the time it has become malleable, I am always looking forward to learning multiple techniques and ways to make my teaching better. I’ve been influenced by knowing Theories such as Executive functions, Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligence, and Pedagogical vs Content.
SOFF (spontaneity, originality, fluency, and flexibility)- “Vaccaro’s definition of measuring creativity” influences my teaching. focus is also a huge part of my teaching. I aim to raise confidence in my students which facilitates them to carry their originality forward in a world that follows the crowd. Since I have been studying to get a degree in Dance, it opened my eyes to many theories that I would like to pass on, for example Twyla Tharp’s . - “The Creative Habit” I would like my students to keep a box (journal) of ideas that they can use to add various choreographic ideas or even ideas that can help them work on themselves as dancers. I believe that performing arts are therapy and social work. We as performers entertain, make ourselves and the world happy.
Career Objectives
Since childhood I have always been a performer, always been interested in creativity, dance and camera. And as my advisor Dr. Kim Vaccaro always said “dancing is acting and acting is dancing”. I aspire to become an actress, who has multiple abilities including directing, producing and choreographing. I would like to entertain the audience with my dancing, and with god's grace in the near future I would like to open up my own performing arts school in India, that gives a certificate in Dancing and acting. The school will be open to anyone who belongs from any background, but with one thing in common, “the ambition to do something big in life, not talent but ambition”. Apart from that I would like to establish my mother's clothing/costume brand as well. We do not get everything together, however, I hope to work hard for whatever I desire to have as a part of my career.
